About the event

Here's the deal.

Waste in the construction industry is a huge probem - we all know this. The idea with this Materials Library Spring Cleanout is to highlight the challenges of material selection and disposal, and to learn more about what is involved in actually recycling or reusing materials that architecture firms normally specify.

To do this, a few local architecture firms are invited to bring anything from their material sample library that they want to dispose of to TAS's Circular Living Lab. We'll dump out the material and then folks from Circular Partners (https://www.vikingrecycling.ca/) will be on hand to help sort the material into piles like “Can be recycled” and “Very complicated to recycle” and “Definitely garbage, don’t ever buy this stuff again!” The intent is to have a discussion about the waste management process using the sample materials as . . . well, as samples of how difficult this is to sort out with small collections of materials. Not to mention, the much larger problem of the many, many square meters of material that architecture firms specify for actual buildings!

You're invited to join the party at 4:00, when Circular Partners will talk about a better way to deal with material selection and services with respect to proper disposal. We'd also love your ideas on how some of this stuff can be reused and diverted from landfill - from installations to art to ballast, we're all ears. Then from 5:00-6:00, we'll have some time for networking (until TAS kicks us all out).
